how does /lit/ feel about stephen king? i've seen lots of people here either love him or hate him, but it feels like a solid mix.

I come seeking help. I'm guessing there are some pretty big Stephen King fans lurking this board? If so, could you help me to find a book?

My girlfriend says she used to have a rare edition of The Gunslinger. It was long and thin, illustrated with a sliver cover (perhaps the cover featured an illustration?).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did King ever write a book that was good all the way from start to finish?

This guy loves marijuana. Lots in his ilk love the stuff just as he did. Do you? Also, if a user, how does your writing come out whilst high? Anyone willing to provide examples?

>Marijuana and its influence over writing general.

I think Stephen King is terrible.

That said, I'd really like to know of some good horror authors. Really the only exposure I've had to the genre is Poe and Lovecraft. I love Poe, and I generally like Lovecraft but something just seems off about his writing.

t;dr recommend some horror books to some elitist asshole who typically derides genre-fiction

STEPHEN KING GENERAL

He's not a horror author. He writes dark fantasy and high drama. His books are what modern television aspires to be, only he did what LOST did twenty years earlier and better.

He has ghost writers right? So what does he even do? Just pick and choose which books he wants to put his name on? Is he involved in the writing at all?

Hey, I've never understood the massive hate for Stephen King. Anyone care to elaborate?
I've read two his books so far, The Shining and Salem's Lot, and they were really fucking good, I was surprised how great they were. So please explain it to me.

btw, isn't he the most ugliest motherfucker ever?

Is there any author that makes you think "he's not bad, but, if he had written less what he's written would be better"?

To me, this is the case of Stephen King. It's true the more you write the better you become, but that's not what I mean. What I mean is that he had some good ideas and if instead he published 1 novel a year, he worked on each one 5 years, they would be much better in terms of quality.

just read ASOIAF. it's trashy as all hell but impossible to put down. if that doesn't strike your fancy, you could always sample the King of the plebs - pic related. I'd suggest the Stand or the Long Walk.

Was browsing Amazon and happened to notice a LOT of Stephen King books are a penny (plus postage). Having never read much King (just Nightmares & Dreamscapes and Pet Sematary), do they come recommended? I know the guy must be near his century if he hasn't hit it already, he writes so much.

Part of me says he must be good, the other part thinks of Harry Potter. I checked the Wiki in hope of a list that ranks King books, but had no such luck.

why do so many people love this tryhard?

from misery, one his most acclaimed books:
> "he discovered three things almost simultaneously, about ten days after having emerged from the dark cloud. The first was that annie wilkes had a great deal of novril. The second was that he was hooked on novril. the third was that annie wilkes was dangerously crazy"

what makes his writing good again?
