The change was from pre-christian values, which where Nietzschean in the only way as they where created by those who practiced them to serve them and not as a reaction to a greater power. The virtues of Christendom, not Christians, were created in refutation and against existing authoritive structures. Slave-based morality, doubly so as the first Christian's were quite literally slaves.
