I want to try to solve this dilemma in one final thread. I've asked this multiple times, so let me bring up the points:

Garnett:
-Translated only a very short period after Dostoevsky wrote his books
-Criticized by Nabokov and other Russians for translation errors (but don't all translators make errors?)

P+V translation:
-"easier to read" (I read lots of literature, so the Garnett translation is just as easy for me)

My main question in discerning which of the two is best is this: What do real Russians think of the P+V translation?? I can't seem to find any information on this subject. Second, I want some definitive proof that Dostoevsky's prose is actually as simple as P+V translate it to be. If they are watering down his complex prose like those horrendous "No Fear Shakespeare" translations, that would be awful.

I don't know which translation is better out of these two:
Pevear and Volokhonsky, or Garnett.
This is for Crime&Punishment.
