My sister is obsessed with this book.
Is it actually good or is it overrated trash?

So is this like cosy/comedy of manners Fantasy? Is it any good?

The title + cover intrigue me.

Has anyone read this? The cover is fucking beautiful, but every review I've read of it always emphasizes how similar it is to GoT and how it's a feminist fantasy, which makes me think its derivative as hell.

Is this book actually good? I get immediately turned off when I see reviews saying shit like "Move over, Tolkien - you had a good run, but it's high time fantasy had a Queen."

I love these kinds of vertical cityscapes where you can't see the ground.

>What are the most memorable cities that you've come across in sff literature?
Hard to pick one. A lot of the cities in Wheel of Time stick out in my memory. I can recall their general shape, even names of districts. Part of that is just because of how long characters would spend in some of them. None of them in particular stands out as "the most" memorable though. If I had to pick a singular city that I think of almost immediately when I think of a series, it would either be Luthadel from Mistborn, or Darujhistan from Malazan Book of the Fallen.
>What are you currently reading?
Pic related. Enjoying it a lot more than I expected to. It's refreshing to find a new author that isn't another GRRM wannabe. Since it's a stand alone novel the pacing is also fairly quick and I've yet to hit a slow part despite its 800 or so pages.

I'm liking this so far. Obvious allegory world as a base, but what the author's added on top shows a great deal of thought was put into it. It's not at the level of something like Cook's Instrumentalities of the Night where the entire setting is a big "gotcha", but she knows how to properly bait world building tidbits which is more than I can say for a lot of new fantasy authors, and the characters are also pretty interesting. So far the plot seem fairly predictable though, and that might be the story's weakpoint unless it pulls a fast one on me.

So I picked this up on a whim, anybody read it? What did you think?
