I have always believed Proper Literature to be the Most Noble of the Arts. Unfortunately, the vox populi at this time is more Mundane and Mediocre than has ever been seen before. Those of our generation who were raised on Harry Potter (rather than Proper children’s Literature such as Gormenghast or Dickens), now read Games of Thrones books, assuming of course, that they do not simply watch the televised version—as if a pulp genre series needed to be further diluted through abridgement and moving pictures. Worse yet are those who do not even care for the simplest of stories and instead sit idly in front of their folderol-boxes playing “video” games as they suck down cheesed burgers and soda….but, I digress.

There is, thankfully, an incandescent gem among the mere minerals. Enter Pynchon: An Obstreperous Master of the Pen if ever there was one! It is, frankly, no surprise that he was never given the Pulitzer for Gravity’s Rainbow. Nor is it surprising that he has not steadily received the accolades of Dellilo, Roth, and the like. Quite simply, the man is in a League of His Own. His Searing Intellectualism and Honesty cannot be handled by the plague of post-modernity, neo-feminism, meta-structuralism, and other strains of the Cognitive Plague which have doomed the University and with it, the study of Proper Literature.

To read Pynchon today then, is the most Noble auto-didactic measure towards being a Man of Proper Literature (such as myself) that one can take. Ergo, join me, dear liters, and let us form an Alliance against the Decadence and Numb-Headedness of the masses as we undertake an immense Journey through the BLEEDING EDGE:
