Seneca is one of the best authorities, although in fairness to you, Stoicism does have a lot of variation and some authors might have been far more austere in there approach to the Stoic ideal. If we are to continue using Seneca as a source however, the ideal is attainable - although he sets out that few make it to the top of the mountain, nevertheless, it is achievable by all men. It is not just an impossible 'Jesus-like' ideal whose only purpose is to delude you into going after a goal that no man can ever reach
