Are there any mythologies/religions which truly show devotion to a dark subject matter? Like a religion that actually worships death, or the idea of evil.
Growing up I used to think Satanism was this, but it's actually more like a Batman LARP, which is very disappointing.
Likewise, it's a popular sentiment that Nietzsche puts forward a dark philosophy, but reading his works it's mostly about trying to derive meaning from the darkness of the modern world.

Lucifer did nothing wrong. Yahweh is a hypocritical, evil cunt. Lucifer was at least honest.

>Fallen away from Heav'n's eternal light
>I drift in rage and sorrow through this world
>And from the realm of death am now condemned
>To gaze with longing on Paradise Lost

This tripe doesn't even rhyme

It seems to me that John Milton was in every sense a rebel. He rebelled against the Catholic Church. He rebelled against the monarchy in support of democracy, and aided and abetted in the treasonous execution of the innocent King Charles I, the crime from whence precedes all the woes of revolution and subversion by which the annihilation of Christianity, the west, and all good in the world has been perpetuated.

Is it any wonder than that Milton conceived the modern figure of Lucifer, a rebel who seeks to subvert the honorable Monarchy and right religion out of pure envy? One who brings about the fall of greatness and the descent into darkness of mankind in his stubborn obstinance to authority? Clearly he is projecting upon Lucifer his own character, or he is like enough to him to humanize and sympathize with him.

By the way, this was originally posted in /pol/ but I realize it would be more appropriate here.

I am tired of talking about people or characters, recommend books full of ideas, abstract books, philosophy books, scientific dissemination or whatever, simply books about ideas

(And what book will make me look like the one in the photo in this thread)
(What books would Prince Hamlet recommend me?)
I am looking for books of poetry that are mystical, dark, eerie, macabre, lugubrious, passionate, romantic, powerful, that are written as if by the devil. What poems remind of Allan Poe's raven?

I'm Satan, except without any of the redeeming qualities. I'm the biggest piece of trash on the planet and I won't change. I am in the Hell of my design. This is not an Exit.

>Who are character-wise the greatest monsters in literature?
>'great' as in: the most monstrous, evil, vile, disturbing

A very obvious inclusion would have to be Milton's Satan.

Why was Satan so charismatic and badass in Paradise Lost? It's like Milton wanted you to root for the guy.

How come Milton made this character so relatable? Was he aware? Or is my view warped by modern values?
