An anti-natalist post apoc work. A man wakes up from injuries after a catastrophic war in an alternate reality medieval Europe. Partly due to his mental state he is spared by a group of enforcers, presumably a band of soldiers estranged from their army, who are making a business of exterminating any remnants of hope in humanity. Altruism, moralism, religion, etc. are seen as dangerous and put down. Most all writings are burned, buildings chopped down with tools into rubble, all women and children are killed, very few men are spared. Their praxis is an extreme form of pragmatism.

There's not really a point to it or any kind of message, more just an exploration of how a group of people would act in complete depravity. I have a scene that keeps running through my head that I adapted from a real dream I had, where one of the men is throwing children into a bonfire. The protagonist was tasked to help him but is sort of stupefied and watching from a nearby bench. The man is ranting on about how dreadful the whole thing, about how the cries of the kids are made to be as alarming as possible and how falling for it makes you a fool and how he wishes they'd all shut up. How you can't trust their crying or act on it, that they're nothing but wastes of food who will slow them down if you do. How the babies are the worst of the lot because they don't even talk, they just communicate with awful screaming. He says it all in a tone of voice like a field peasant who hates the labor of his job, like he's tossing logs into a fire instead of people.

It sounds edgy as fuck I know. I got the idea from Ligotti, it's like a horror novel in a way. It will probably never be published of course, and I don't really want to, it's in rough drafts right now. Just a personal project.

Found a /lit/-tier cutie. She's taken a liking to me and we've been talking for awhile. My hopes aren't high, there's no need to get ahead of myself, but it's a pretty good feeling. The question is where to go from here. I'm willing to take a risk, as is she, despite paranoia from past experiences telling me otherwise.

Aside from that, it's Christmas. Quite cozy, I'll spend it with my parents, I wouldn't want their last couple years of Christmas to be spent alone. They were great parents and don't deserve that fate.
