Delightful little book. It's a shame I never see Durell discussed at all on this board.

One of the comfiest things I have read, and with delightful prose.

I haven't read any of these but I asked the same thing in a thread and I walked away with these recs: Walden, Blood Meridian, The Peregrine, and Whitman and Jeffers for poetry. Other than those, I keep shilling pic related on /lit/. It has gorgeous prose about the sea, land and men, not so much about living in solitude though.

This is the only book I've read by Durrell and I hear it's not his best by far. I can't imagine how delightful his better known works must be. The man has divine prose; I wonder why /lit/ never talks about him.

As a matter of fact this is one of his minor works, this guy wrote better books in godly prose, yet I never see him discussed on /lit/ at all. Still, I found Prospero's Cell supremely comfy and soothing at a point in my life when I needed just that.

Yes! I Haven't read any of his major works but I picked up his Corfu diary without any big expectations and I was surprised to read one of the comfiest, wittiest books of my life. I'd like to hear me about him from better read anons.
