Is Altered Carbon any good?

I checked this piece of shit and just couldn't stop reading it. I feel it has to be the worst thing I've ever read, or at least it has the worst first chapter.

On concept alone it's a cheap adolescent power fantasy. Badass action man, with his badass action lady, doing whedon style quips at each other while posing and smoking. The rest of the chapter is a fanfiction level action sequence, clearly hoping it would be a movie, with no actual literary techniques. No time dilatation or contraction, no pov movement, no correlation between what's happening and how it's being told. It all feels like a first draft, and one filled with place holders that you'll write later on.

Just finished this, are the other books worth reading? I read the synopsis of the second novel and it seems like a mix of Rambo and Raiders of the Lost Ark instead of detective noir

Is this any better than the absolute mess of a tv show?

Want to read some scifi again, are these books that good?

First book is great (better than Neuromancer). Then, the series took a nosedive and Takeshi was no longer the lovable mass murderer.
