I'll be honest and say that while GW has produced some stupid shit in their 40k and new fantasy setting, Warhammer Fantasy is probably the most original and indeed even the BEST "modern" fantasy setting out there today. So many other settings try so hard to be Fantasy but different or "realistic" (cynical) where as Warhammer Fantasy embraces its tropes and makes something distinct.

Fiction that adheres to genre can never be taken seriously, and any author that tries will fail and make something laughably adolescent like GoT or The Kingkiller Chronicles. An author that embraces the limitations will come away with a product no more serious, but much more entertaining.
