think it came out in 2009 in Japan but I feel this counts as 2010s lit for us burgers

It was too long, yet I can't even tell you what should be cut out. "Wind-Up Bird Chronicle" is 10x the book this is, in only about half the length.

I'm already in book 3, just after Tengo goes back home after visiting his father for 2 weeks. Nothing happens. The last Ushikawa chapter was him visiting Aomame and Tengo's old school and learning the information we, as readers, know since the first chapters of book 1. I like Murakami's style, helps getting into the head of the protagonists. But that's it.
