In the book he was involved in the planning of the Bay of Pigs invasion and a couple of assassination attempts on Castro. He was heavily invested in the casinos and nightclubs of Havana, until Castro kicked him out.
And after JFK dropped any further plans of taking over Cuba after the Bay of Pugs failed, he felt betrayed and it’s implied he might have put out a hit on Kennedy.
