Intellectual intuition is participatory in actual forms via symbols of those forms, so, contemplating metaphysical symbols and cultivating your mind can eventually lead you to cognize real archetypes and have real experiences of higher realms and beings

Imagination is not just play with phantom images from the senses, it's also a creative collaborative process that can "work up" to meet the forms halfway, via metaphysical symbols acting as a bridge or halfway point

This is really at the heart of all yoga, all metaphysical mysticism, neoplatonic noesis, etc. You are organizing and purifying your inner space to make it coincide with the true inner space of the world, which is in effect realizing that you were always already connected to the forms and they are as much a part of you as you are of them ("the outer is the inner, the inner is the outer" / "tat tvam asi" = thou art that). Even devotional mysticism like St. Bonaventure's, St. Ignatius, St. John of the Cross, and bhakti dvaita all draw on the same basic perennial tradition of metaphysical contemplation. It can even be found in ancient Egypt (no joke), it's obviously in the Vedas, it's at the heart of Kabbalah and hermetic alchemy..
