Is his protagonist really having an 800-page meltdown and total deconstruction of his life and self because he thinks the nazis were justified at least to some meagre extent? Seems a tad extreme.

So what can y'all tell me about The Tunnel by William H. Gass?
Been getting into maximalist and post-modern novels recently. Really been enjoying John Barth recently, specifically The Sot-Weed Factor and The Tidewater Tales. Have started Mason & Dixon, also really liked Vineland by Pynchon, though that's not as long. I find that these books are perfect for this time of year, both Barth and what I've read of Pynchon have very autumnal feels, and the large scope of these works is quite cozy as well. Would I enjoy The Tunnel as well and would it be a good Fall read?

This man had possibly the greatest prose style of any American writer ever and he spent his life writing this mudpie. The comics and illustrations alone are embarrassingly bad, looks like clipart. Actually pisses me off someone so talented could waste their fucking life writing some post-modernist masturbation like this, he could’ve stopped writing it in its 25th year, spent a year writing a 100 page novella with a story and actual characters, and it would’ve blown this dogshit out of the water.

One day someone will write The Tunnel about a disaffected incel /pol/tard and /lit/ will self-destruct, having fulfilled its purpose.

Just finished this today. Incredible book. Gass is incredibly based. Up there with Gravity's Rainbow imo.

Bought this cause i thought it would would be an interesting psychological mystery. Finding it unreadable basically getting filtered hard. wat do?
