why

>This period of my life, aside from my early childhood in England, was one of the best periods. Life was fair and life was satisfying. No one had unfair advantages. This was perfect, and this is how life should be.

Because I wasn't good enough to be a doctor or in any feasible way help people. Literature and the ideas i've gained from it, the names. They're the only things that have meaning to me anymore.

Pictures of authors

I just saw this photo of James Joyce on the NYRB website. I'd never seen it before. I don't know why I feel so uncomfortable about it. Maybe it's because I'm so used to seeing Joyce in the common authorial poses that anything that strays from that is peculiar.
