The point of his philosophy wasn't that this is a great system. He's simply explaining reality to the reader, so they can decide these things with a liberated mind.

Yes, he played around with some models where egoism might be used by a group, but it's not actually part of the argument, it's just "let me offer you some ad hoc advice if you want to try this out with your friends, good luck!" At no point does he claim that the world would be better if everyone was an egoist, and the almost guaranteed fact that it would be worse doesn't remotely disprove his core idea. He wrote the book because he wanted to and (presumably) because he liked the idea of a small minority of intelligent people freeing themselves from morality. The reader is not encouraged to spread this to others, it would be entirely fitting with his vision if you decided the best way to further your own interests was to become Pope and spread lies to control others.
