>try writing a novel on my pc because I thought it'd be therapeutic
>start my sophomore year in high school and only write after midnight like that one famous southern gothic bitch with the book that had like 15 different POVs
>get real in depth with the world building and characters
>give one character more attention but make sure to make him as unlike me as possible to avoid making him a stupid self insert
>give the character a sweet, tender romance side plot
>again, confident that it's not a self insert so I go in depth with it
>get real passionate about the novel and spend a whole summer working on it
>500 pages, consider fine tuning it to be properly edited and maybe published
>begin to have romantic fantasies about the MC and the female character I had him set up with in which they interact
>write it off at first as just planning out scenes in my novel to make them seem natural and profound unlike a lot of romance side plots
>eventually realize that I feel shame having any romantic feelings or fantasies at all, luxuries that aren't reserved for the likes of me, and that by creating a character very unlike myself I can play out said fantasies in my head without guilt and sustain my healthy urges
>become upset, stop working on the novel
>try talking about it to a relative, they just laugh
>two hours ago, feel shame for even having the gall to try writing something with romance in it
>delete the entire project by literally wiping my HDD with a dirty cloth while doing unrelated computer repair since it's an old PC I only use for writing
>instantly regret it
>curl up in closet and open /lit/

So anyone else think Dinosaurs Before Dark had a pretty shitty setting for the first book? The series was mostly historical fiction, so perhaps the second book's medieval setting would've been a much better suited introduction to the series.

It took almost an entire year, but I finally finished it. Some of the words were too big for me, but I felt like I learnt a lot. I was a fan of Jack's deep characterization. I also learned that Dinosaurs are friendly to humans. Can someone recommend another novel for me? Something a bit lighter than this books, because I need a break from long and complicated novels.
