No-one who actually lives would say something so dumb. This is a textbook example of the psychological defense people employ to rationalize their own failure and mental arrest, "oh no, it's not that I've failed to live, life fundamentally is empty and not worth living. Why? Because the emptiness doesn't last forever obviously!" It doesn't even make internal sense but it doesn't have to because the point isn't to answer anything but rather to stop questions, to stop looking for reasons by suggesting there's no such thing.
