one of the makers said xaviers speech was inspired by gordon lish's prose in the short story collection mourner at the door. if what youre looking for is "transcendentally stupid", then look no further. i personally reccomend zimzum, "wouldnt a title just make it worse" or "fuck james joyce"

some of nabakovs narrators are similar to xavier. pale fire is similar almost

and of course the obligatory... finnigans wake

gordon lish. people have accused him of editing "nothing." reading pic related is like having read -1 book. some of it feels like hegel, whos one of his influences.

italo calvino, beckett, burroughs, some phonetic palindrome poetry, /lit/zines and ofc hegel are some that come to mind

im convinced this is a masterpiece but im one of the five people who have probably read it. and its extremely niche and its very hard to describe why its good or what it is. so im cursed with shilling it here

this technically has all those and is very mechanic in its writing but i wouldnt call it giger like.

also naked lunch is another obvious choice for
> i am trapped in absence of essence and form, manigested by one eternal existence while my whole body pulses with existential dread through the tip of my penis (acid style) and also i am trapped terrorising thought patterns and probs gonna kill myself in 24 hours vibes

If you meant lish, as in gordon lish, can we talk about him? no one knows who he is here so i cant find anyone to talk to about him. hes my favorite writer and hes the only one who has written works that are perfect from start to finish imo. what are your fav works by him? fav short stories?

peru was wonderful (even though a lot of his other work seem to be too similar to it) and sometimes i read the begining of peru because its rhymes so well. the diologue and the rhythm and the subtlety waiting to explode always make me shiver.

zimzum starts out the same way but then it gets transcendentaly stupid. its like if god was autistic and he was watching the thoughts of a man and gets bored so he skips ahead.

some of his shorter stories are a bit less perfect tho. especially his earlier ones. the rhythm isnt perfect and the ambiguity can be forced. anyways i think its a shame he doesnt get any credit when he has reached peaks others havent even considered

Gordon Lish

hes the guy who cut down raymond carvers stories to one tenth the size. he pissed of nabakov by editing one of his passages and sent it back to him once. his writing is either exploding with words or immensely minimal and reserved. some guy had a review of him where he called it editing of nothing and its pretty accurate. he also has the most autistic sense of humor. almost every sentence he writes is perfect but he drives you insane. read the first 6 pages of peru or his short story "the dead" if you want something nostalgic and beautiful. read zimzum or the story "wouldnt giving it a title make it worse" if you want to see his stupid side

gordon lish

The nursing home started phoning me and phoning me to say that Father and Mom were not behaving. The nursing home kept badgering me about what I would do about Father and Mom misbehaving. But I could think of nothing to do. You think I could think of something to do about it? Who was I to think of something to do? I expected those two to be dead already! Can I tell you something? They weren't dead, they weren't dead at all. You know what else? I was not prepared for something like misbehaving.
