What are these stars in these heavens? What are these crickets speaking about? Why do these birds chirp? Why when my son opens the door do I run to it? Who hung these stars here? Who hung this little man here? Where did I come from? The dust? The dirt? What do I eat? The dust? The dirt? Where does love spring from? Why is it so present and so elusive? Have you gazed up and worried? Worried how the stars knew to stay in their constellations? Who named these constellations? What were they like? What did they believe? The built up these stories. What little time they had to give to putting something on a note for the future? Where do these thoughts come from? Where do they go? Have I drank the cup of madness? Or have I just seen more truth?

God (or whatever you want to call him/it, I find “the absolute” to make the most sense) is an artist and existence is a “play” he’s orchestrated. The play consists of struggle and overcoming but these are necessary if a narrative is to produce an aesthetic experience. God has created it so he can admire it’s beauty. It is our job as “actors” to bring the story to resolution. Tragedians deny a resolution is possible but the result of that denial is merely another thread those intent on resolution will have to weave to conclusion.

Resolution is achieved by establishing a 1:1 relationship between our thoughts and our world. When humanity began this was our state, our minds were primitive and untamed as our world was. The Fall occurred when we acquired our first drop of consciousness and from then on we’ve been trying to reenter eden by establishing the kingdom of heaven. We are aware things are not the way they should be so God gave us thought in order to rectify inconsistencies between our mind and our world.

When resolution is achieved we will have raised ourselves to a higher state from which we began. We will have attained divinity.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Gustave Doré, the most /lit/ of artists.

/lit/ is for the discussion of literature, specifically books (fiction & non-fiction), short stories, poetry, creative writing, etc. If you want to discuss history, religion, or the humanities, go to /his/. If you want to discuss politics, go to /pol/. Philosophical discussion can go on either /lit/ or /his/, but those discussions of philosophy that take place on /lit/ should be based around specific philosophical works to which posters can refer.

Check the wiki, the catalog, and the archive before asking for advice or recommendations, and please refrain from starting new threads for questions that can be answered by a search engine.

/lit/ is a slow board! Please take the time to read what others have written, and try to make thoughtful, well-written posts of your own. Bump replies are not necessary.
