My parents were really fucking weird people and this has most likely fucked me up in some insidious way. Books for this feel?

Why do people spend months if not years reading this shit? You can't define anything. All attempted schemas for how consciousness works or how to find meaning or God have failed embarrassingly.

The pleasure that we get from music or whatever else is rather personal and can't be adequately translated to anyone else let alone ourselves, so why be a sperg about it and read shit like the Phenomenology or Nicomachean Ethics pretending it has anything but an autist's conjecture to offer you?

Not exactly /lit/ related but I've felt so hopeless lately over the politics of the U.S. It feels like we have very little control over who represents us. And even if someone who looks empathetic like (dare I say it) Obama they are powerless to actually do anything once in office and their actual policies are horrible and seem to be decided by someone else behind closed doors. The policies of Clinton, Bush, Obama, Trump, etc are all the same and don't seem to be decided by them at all. I know we're supposed to "vote with our dollar" but being a conscious consumer doesn't seem to accomplish much when our purchasing power is so small compared to rich people with private jets and petroleum-extracting corporations and poor people who seem to be too stupid to live sustainably. What the fuck can we even do?

There is a "post-modernist" by the name of David Ligare that I quite like, not sure if I'd call him my favorite though. He is sort of the John Williams of painting - he wants the composition to be perfectly harmonized and for total clarity in his message in contrast with his peers who are all making dumb statues that mean nothing. (Although I do prefer Ulysses to Stoner, this same approach makes sense in painting given how stupid post-modern art has become)
