I was recently accepted into a master's degree program for literature. I am being offered a full scholarship so I don't need to pay anything except moving expenses of course. I will have to live in a city I dislike for a year.

Anyone else here pursue literature at the graduate level? Is it really as miserable and soulless as I've heard? I'll be honest I would not even be considering pursuing this if I wasn't being offered a free ride.

Being a schizoid incel pussy, I was a little jealous of the men for having sex with whoever and whenever they wanted. But it made me think really hard and examine these feeling and I realized that having sex wouldn't make me any happier. I like the idea of penis in vagina but it's all it is. Penis in vagina. It's over in a few minutes, and then what? I'm there, naked with a woman in total silence. I'm no longer horny so she's reduced from 'Woman' to a regular human. It was the I have to interact with her in a non sexual manner. I was only willing to trade my sweet solitude for sex, but once the sex is over, I don't get my solitude back.
Also, maybe there's something wrong with me, but I can't not develop any feelings. There's isn't a condom for feelings, only for coom. I don't know how soulless do you have to be to share such intimacy and not develop some feelings. The women with body counts in the hundreds must be dead inside, or some kind of demons.
Anyways, it's a good book.

How do people who have day jobs have the time to balance reading and other hobbies? The only way this challenge seems practicable is if you either read relatively short books, are NEET and have mom do the chores/cooking for you, or have impecabble concentration skills with no other hobbies. Maybe I'm too used to reading long books (More than 600 pages minimum), but reading a book a week is just a very high pace for someone with a life outside of reading IMO.

>not listening to white noise while reading
NGMI. You'd rather want to listen to different kinds of backround noises such as fan, nature, waves etc. Our neighbor is too obnoxious to tone down their radio for god's sake.

It's not just /lit/, 4chan(nel) in general has been getting progressively shittier and less fun/creative over the past several years. I blame years of Reddit raids, election tourists, Zoomers becoming the majority, Pepe/Wojak spam, social media, phoneposters, Discord trannies, basically everything that's ruined the rest of the internet seeping into 4chan. This has always been a site for outcasts, but instead of becoming a refuge from the outside world, it's become an extension of it.

unfortunately so
i can only guess it's the same kind of populist charisma found among contemporary political talking heads that drove hitler to power, hooking into the lack of deeper meaning and purpose in modern capitalism which leaves these younger minds so vulnerable

There's no definitive answer, people commonly interpret Lear's line in Act 5 scene 3: "And my poor fool is hanged" to indicate he was hung after his last exit, though the line is probably talking about Cordelia. The same actor might have played both the Fool and Cordelia, as they never appear at the same time, once the Fool's role is over Cordelia becomes more prominent, so that also may be the reason he disappears without explanation.

Any advice/ideas/methods on how to write characters if you're a hermit and don't have much worldly experience?
"Write what you know" would lead me to masturbatory wish-fulfillment, where all my characters are me, the fatherly figure I wish I had, the motherly waifu for laifu, etc...
Should I just read the kind of stories I want to write?

But even then, when I get to writing myself, how do I get over autistically doubting whether a character seems "plausible" or "reasonable", or whether "real people act/talk like that"? In other words, how do you avoid being cheesy?

>"The philosophy of the ruling minority in Nineteen Eighty-Four is a sadism which has been carried to its logical conclusion by going beyond sex and denying it. Whether in actual fact the policy of the boot-on-the-face can go on indefinitely seems doubtful. My own belief is that the ruling oligarchy will find less arduous and wasteful ways of governing and of satisfying its lust for power, and these ways will resemble those which I described in Brave New World."
>"Within the next generation I believe that the world’s rulers will discover that infant conditioning and narco-hypnosis are more efficient, as instruments of government, than clubs and prisons, and that the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging and kicking them into obedience. In other words, I feel that the nightmare of Nineteen Eighty-Four is destined to modulate into the nightmare of a world having more resemblance to that which I imagined in Brave New World. The change will be brought about as a result of a felt need for increased efficiency."
We're already living in Brave New World's dystopia. Are you having fun?
