If I were to read on a culture-by-culture basis, which order should I read in?

Thinking of getting into reading The Iliad and Odyssey. I have it boiled down to two translations: Fagles and Fitzgerald. Which did you prefer?

Middle English spelling is pretty strange

my post was in late Middle English/very early modern English from the 1490s

in fact all those words appear in William Caxton's 1496 translation of the Aeneid

sadly he doesn't stick closely to the original so comparing it to the Latin and modern English for comedic effect isn't possible

but you can with Gavin Douglas's 1513 Middle Scots translation:

Latin:

Arma virumque cano, Troiae qui primus ab oris
Italiam, fato profugus, Laviniaque venit

Literal translation:

Arms and a man I sing of, Troy's first to the coast of Italy, a fate exile, to Latinium he came

Middle Scots:

The batalis and the man I wil discrive,
Fra Troys boundis first that fugitive
By fait to Ytail come and cost Lavyne
