I can't read Dune for a while because it reminds me of my ex-girlfriend who was a fan and I need to stop thinking about her.

I was 100 pages in and it was pretty good. Bah.

You forgot Asimov and Frank Herbert.

Dune and The Foundation are amazing series, anyone who likes sci-fi should not miss out on them.

Okay, I admit it: I hate sci-fi. Most of it reads like pulp trash fanfiction written by nerds who like to splooge over Popular Science articles and then figure out a way to paste some of the gadgets and concepts they read about into a story. So, in an effort to be more open minded and broaden my selection of books, I asked a friend to recommend to me the one best sci-fi book he's ever read. He told me to read Frank Herbert's Dune.

It did not change my mind about science fiction. In fact, it only made it worse.

I didn't like Dune
He skips over two-thousand-some years of history without really explaining any of it. I found some of the concepts interesting, but his flowery style completely obfuscated the actual plot. Maybe I'm just stupid, but I couldn't even tell the Spice granted like, fucking superpowers or something until near the end of the book. And WHY was Maincharacter McProtagonist able to see into the future. I have this nagging feeling that this was explained, but it was probably done in such a way that it was purely incomprehensible.

So, what is wrong with me?

I always read 2-6 books at a time.

Anyone else do this?

Finished Dune, but it left me wanting more. Are the sequels any good?

I'm almost finished with Dune. What book should I read next?

Here are my options:
The Hobbit;
A Song of Ice and Fire;
Prose Eddas.

So, which of the 3?
