I just don't know if it's even possible to stop people from making those kinds of threads. It feels like an ideological/thought problem rather than a board categorization problem?

If we add polls, maybe you could filter polls so it's easier to detect braindead threads?

I am really open to any ideas... this seems like the hardest problem to solve. Breaking out /lit/ into other boards lets those boards have better discussions, but /lit/ still has /lit/ cancer but more distilled.

>lot more practical for me to resolve those things in my head
I personally did the same but eventually it weighed me down and made me feel like a deer in headlights with so much bullshit in my head to consider. I picked up a shitty notebook and did a stream of conscious thing of every negative thing I had in my head. Later, I went back and organized my notes and started figuring out ways to fix the issues. It was fucking liberating to be able to see every single thought as words on paper that I could forget about and come back to and it'd still be there. It was as if a fucking boulder has been lifted off my head.

>start taking reading seriously a couple years ago
>take recommendations from /lit/ and read whatever else seems interesting
>have a blast, begin to truly appreciate what a privilege it is to be born with the chance to be literate and have almost unlimited access to writing from people across space and time
>can literally pick up a bundle of paper or look at a computer and receive messages from people hundreds or thousands of years before I was born
>have since incorporated new vocabulary words into my normal conversational language
>see a friend of mine, another apprentice in the break trailer staring hard into space like he was thinking
>jokingly tell him not to look so inquisitively
>he tells me not to use such big words
>play it off and go about the day
>since then can't help wondering if people really are irritated by the way I talk
I work with mostly blue collar people who just don't read unless they have to. What am I supposed to do, talk to them like I think they are stupid? Oh well, I guess it's their problem if they are offended by words they've never heard before.

>get urge to become a desert drifter/mercenary
>read Moby Dick
>get urge to be a whaler
>read A Confederacy of Dunces
>get urge to eat tons of hot dogs
>read The Republic
>get urge to fashion a loin cloth and become a caveman
This is normal right? I can't be the only one right?

>mfw realizing I don't even really have a culture
>raised in modern America, in which the only culture is consumption
>didn't grow up in any religious tradition
>don't have anything resembling a coherent ethnic background
>closest thing I have to tradition is holiday meals
>only somewhat exclusive membership I can claim in my labor union, which is fundamentally wedded with the industrial society and is no longer radical or unique in any way
>even all the classical, esoteric, philosophical or """"deep"""" literature I read is essentially just a very eccentric form of consumerism, does not change the way I live my life besides being able to bewilder illiterate normalfags by rattling off trivia about historically significant writers or thinkers
What the fuck do I do now, /lit/? I feel that authentic culture is dead and even if it wasn't I'd have no way to make it a fundamental part of my life anyway. And don't just tell me to go to church, even that has been transformed into a consumer/virtue signalling affair.
