Question, don't the boomers who simply say "believe and be saved" have the most subtle philosophy possible? I know it doesn't seem like it, but I feel as if makes a lot more sense now in light of Ecclesiastes and Job, not to mention Greek philosophy.

My argument is that Sola Fide adopts a position of complete skepticism, similar to that of Pyrrho; nothing matters except the ἀταραξία one gets from faith in God, since all knowledge is dubitable and produces sorrow (as we learn from Ecclesiastes).

Honestly I don't know why this board is obsessed with the Unabomber and Pol Pot. Consoomerism is only an issue if you are a Consoomerist. In fact, all you're really saying is that you want the nanny state to prevent marketing from exploiting the weak-minded. Honestly, the fact that Aristotle was right, and some people are just natural born slaves shouldn't concern you in the slightest; at least they are tolerably happy with Consumerism (sorry, can't continue to misspell words for Reddit memes).

Chads like Camus saw that this world we've created is actually paradise if you just dump the metaphysical baggage of thousands of years, content to live in the present with few desires. Though I certainly welcome this board's love of metaphysics and ascetic strains of religious thought, enlightenment doesn't consist in having a comforting heaven or metaphysics. Enlightenment consists of an accepting and lowly heart. Neither blowing shit up nor killing people for presumed technology worship is going to advance the cause of religion, or of any virtue of forbearance. If the Unabomber got his way, the virtue of resisting Consumerism would be a lesson mankind would never be allowed to learn.
