You should only read Gravity's Rainbow if you have an IQ above 130. Otherwise just turn back now.

I come to /lit/ to observe the pretentious cunts who are alienated from the real world prance about as if proving intelligence to an anon matters. Also to occasionally have enlightening discussions.

I liked Infinite Jest but there's plenty of emotional impact to Pynchon. Just because he doesn't write characters as well as Wallace doesn't mean there's nothing going on at the emotional level and it certainly doesn't mean he wasn't earnest.

Gravity's Rainbow is a book of furious anger at the military-industrial complex with a lot of esotericism alongside that concern. If you don't get that then you just aren't ready to approach GR effectively or honestly. I suspect Wallace wasn't ready to approach it honestly because he'd fixated on Pynchon as the father he would have to kill to be a real man.

>scientists are a unified body and all work together on some vaguely defined "progress"
In reality they're mostly sperglords who spend ungodly amounts of time on their interests, which happen to be useful. There is nothing keeping a Christposting chemist from making breakthroughs in chemistry, and condemning him for an irrelevant belief only serves to bother perfectly productive scientists who happen to believe in something that is almost entirely irrelevant to their fields.

This is like saying all black people should support illegal immigration because "Progress!"

I'm a pretty big fedora myself, but damn this is just counterproductive for no reason.
