What is /lit/'s opinion on Ray Kurzweil as an author? I haven't read any of his books yet, but I've read a lot about him and I realized that he and I are pretty like-minded when it comes to views about the future and technology and stuff. I'll also be starting a career in biotechnology within the next year, so I want to get some real professional views on futurology before applying around.

I'm probably going to pick up "How to Create a Mind" and "Fantastic Voyage" when I go to bookstore later. I'm a little worried that Fantastic Voyage will be outdated (published in 2004), especially since he released a similar book with different views in 1993. How to Create a Mind really, really intrigues me, though.

>the singularity will save us
>Robojesus is coming
>We can all upload our minds and be immortal
>I can be a robot who merges with one mass consciousness

This is what liberal atheist feminists actually believe

Who else is readying himself for the Singularity?

>living as healthy as possible to be sure to make it
>meditation to rid oneself of attachment of experiencing life as this particular self and ridding oneself of preconceptions about how it will be
>living austerely but putting all your money in health insurance
>preparing oneself to defend augmentation as a human right, not merely an extra gimmick for the rich

Let's do it.

I was merely stating that there is some sort of gradual curve to it. Your 'pain is pain' statement was a bullshit generalisation.

I'm against the abusing of animals myself by the way, but I'm not against killing them. Also, this discussion will be irrelevant in a while with the invention of vat grown meat.
