don't get to bogged down in trying to read the entire western canon in chronological order. Theres nothing wrong with reading a book and then later reading something written by an author that predates and influenced the previous book you read, And in fact it can sometimes be interesting to view things in this sort of non linear way.
There are a few exceptions to this in which reading in a particular order is important, Certain philosophers who wrote commentary on previous philosophers being probably the most obvious case.
tldr; just read whatever you find interesting and you will naturally get an understanding of the 'genealogy' of different ideas and theories. dont end up like picrel

first read the wanderings of oisin. its like an overture for the rest of his literary works. then just read the collected poems through from page 1 like a novel. You'll gradually pick up more of the context as you go, and the mood of the more personal poems will still shine even if you don't know the occasion for them.

If you havent read much poetry you could start by reading his collected plays too. They can just be read like short stories and they introduce many of the themes that he develops in his poems, stories, and essays.

I'm just about to hop off the internet and go read a book instead. (i might masturbate to my imagination and have a shower before reading though
I implore you to do the same. By which i mean, you should hop off the internet and read a book. You don't need to masturbate necessarily, and might not need to have a shower either, depending on your personal hygiene requirements.

I'm planning to dive into critical studies of politics/law. I'm already familiar with the basics of political science and mainstream understandings of the law, tending towards liberal/conservative paradigms but I'm looking to branch out. Tell me what I'm missing, what I should skip, or what would be a better order to read these books in.

>The Concept of Law by H.L.A. Hart
>The Common Law Tradition by Karl Llewellyn
>On Law and Justice by Alf Ross
>The Critical Legal Studies Movement by Roberto Mangabeira Unger
>Foucault's Analysis of Modern Governmentality by Thomas Lemke
>Homo Sacer by Giorgio Agamben

Basically any light-skinned person with >14.4% descendance from the Anglo-Saxons that settled New England and Pennsylvania has the blood of a White Liberal that they must actively fight against if they want to be sane.

Learning a new language consumes a great deal of time even if one's naturally and situationally inclined. One can double that to achieve enough proficiency that they'd internalize more and more accurately by reading the original text rather than merely a good translation. As much as it would give you the corresponding bragging rights among bibliophiles that watching subs gives otaku, it's not actually literacy, it's posturing.

Nah, not everyone has the time to go through the Western canon that thoroughly, albeit it's not a bad approach and gets memed for very good reason.
