What do you think he’d have to say about society today? Specifically in regard to Social Media.

There should be a surgeon general warning on books by people that killed themselves. It’s dangerous to have kids read and get tricked into becoming suicidal.

My kindle keyboard stopped working. Turned it off sleep mode and the screen froze. No longer identified as a drive by the computer. Holding the slide for prolonged periods of time doesn't work. Took the back off. Taking out the battery doesn't work. Arcing the spot where the reset button should have been didn't work. Fully charging it over night didn't work. The light still goes on yellow when it's plugged in. What the actual fuck?

>I... I really want to emphasize here, because I know you'll snip out all the juicy audio bits, that I don't support a president that continues to lie to the public. People aren't dumb, and you know it, they just want to watch TV all day, and what do they see on TV? They see the... president. Rambling about how fantastic and perfect everything is. It's... It's not something that a world leading democracy should be doing. The way... he's handled this whole covid, I mean... corona or maybe 19, however you call it, thing, debacle, pandemic, whatever. The way he's handled it has really been rough. The other day I... I tried to go visit my neighbor (she has a television. I try to stay away from Television because I can tend to be too easily addicted to it (I've now had to do the same with computers after the advent of youtube and netflix (It's just so easy to consume, binge watching television ( have you ever tried it?))) and she told me to stay six feet away from her and to not come inside. She had just made cookies from scratch. I was heart broken. Anyway, people aren't doing too hot out there, and there are some people that should be stepping up to the plate.

Dave is aware of the basic issue here, though he gets sidetracked for some reason about whether the lobsters are in pain:

Moreover, a crustacean is an aquatic arthropod of the class
Crustacea, which comprises crabs, shrimp, barnacles, lobsters, and
freshwater crayfish. All this is right there in the encyclopedia. And
arthropods are members of the phylum Arthropoda, which phylum
covers insects, spiders, crustaceans, and centipedes/millipedes, all
of whose main commonality, besides the absence of a centralized
brain-spine assembly, is a chitinous exoskeleton composed of segments, to which appendages are articulated in pairs
The point is that lobsters are basically giant sea insects.3 Like
most arthropods, they date from the Jurassic period, biologically so
much older than mammalia that they might as well be from another
planet. And they are — particularly in their natural brown-green
state, brandishing their claws like weapons and with thick antennae
awhip — not nice to look at

>So far this book is a meandering pedantic self indulgent mess of a book. Like James Joyce before him, Wallace sets himself as a scion of hyper intellectual demogoggery. It is written by somebody who does not wish to be understood, but by someone who enjoys the smell of his own excrement and sneers down at those he deems too inferior to bask in its odor as much as he does. The statement: "If you do not understand what I have written then you are an uneducated philestine," is laughably absurd. Wallace was a writer who fell head over heels in love with the majesty of his words; slurping down the poisoned Kool Aid of his own hype. No wonder he offed himself. His ego became too large for such a feeble corporeal form.

Review of Infinite Jest. Found on google reviews. Thoughts?
