I watched it so much as a kid/teen I probably put holes in my brain. Only newfag redditors hate it, it's just another medium. I don't watch it any more but I occasionally read manga—my favourite mangaka is Shuzo Oshimi. I don't consider it literature. I don't think people should make so many anime threads on nonanime boards but there's nothing wrong with using an anime/manga image.

No it's not you liar. Maybe your teacher slapped it on the curriculum but it's not some all around standard. My secondary school teachers were based and never made us read garbage shit like this, we had an anthology full of all the classic poems and romantics and bunch of war poems. So far it seems what's been given is pretty lame advice. Somethings i do to help concentrate on reading as well as read faster are: using my finger or a pen to follow the words, push your tongue forward in your mouth(chewing gum is an alternative), use a stopwatch to record how long you take to read a single page and lap it each time (this works surprisingly well for long periods of reading) however don't rush, I also put some instrumental music on although I'm not sure if it's helpful or not.
