>Cunt tries to write like Cormac McCarthy
>Cunt fails miserably
>Cunt still holds esteem as one of the most popular writers of all time
>All because she's a cunt

Anyone else read this garbage?

"Salt water was streaming down his face again. He didn't know why it happened anymore, but it was happening more frequently this month"

Are you serious? Some of the worst shit I've ever read.

Also, this book is purple as fuck.
Cunt literature for cunts.

To the /lit/izens who have read Oryx and Crake;
If you were forced to choose a 'hero' for the novel (between Jimmy/Snowman, Crake, and Orxy), who would you choose and why?

On one hand, I am leaning towards Crake because it is his sole attempt throughout the novel to rid the world of all its evils and create a utopian society without fear, lust, killing, etc. Yet he does this at the cost of the entire human race (almost) and practically attempts to create the Crakers without the ability of having a true culture.

On the other hand, Jimmy/Snowman is the protagonist of the story and I really think the scene at the end, in which the Crakers had built an effigy of Snowman, shows how important Snowman is to them while also showing that Crake's plan may ultimately fail.

What is your opinion, /lit/?

In Oryx and Crake there is talk about splicing. English is not my first language so i can only guess that is the mixing og genes of different animals to create new spieces.

I am looking for more books on this subject. Basically sci-fi with future that involves gene manipulation. Also future that involves nano tech is welcome.

This book is actually way more interesting than The Handmaid's Tale. Anyone agrees?

No love for Oryx & Crake?
I thought it was a great dystopian/post-apocalyptic novel.

So, /lit/
I recently finished reading Orxy & Crake, and I loved it.
I have a copy of Year of the Flood, but I have been reluctant to start it because I am worried it is a bad book, and will ruin the experience of reading the first.

What I'm asking is, should I read Year of the Flood?

I read this book recently, and while I found it somewhat interesting and rather unsettling, so many aspects of its setting were cartoonish. It's hard to take a piece of social commentary seriously when the author clearly has a very weak grasp on the things she's trying to debunk. She makes herself sound like a mad, distorted old lady far behind the times.

Her vision of an America completely and utterly devoid of morality and common sense is so extreme it's unbelievable. We're supposed to believe that the smartest young minds on Earth get their kicks out of recreating works of film and literature with completely nude characters and playing psychotic educational games on the Internet.

Also, I just couldn't come to accept that every major corporation of the future had a name like "CorpSeCorps" or "AnooYoo" or "ChickieNobs". There isn't a single mention of a familiar product or brand name to be found, so the America Atwood describes is almost completely alien.

Dystopia is frightening when it hits close to home. This does not hit close to home. I expected far better from Atwood, especially after reading The Blind Assassin, Cat's Eye, and Handmaid's Tale.
