Left vs right is to a large extent about universalism vs particularity. For the left the arc of history is bending toward one justice, not several justices, which means that the left should at least in theory be totally unified. The right, on the other hand, want to defend particularity, and particulars (to the extent that they are *just* particulars) cannot share a common good with other particulars. Common interests and common enemies, maybe, but not a common good.
