OP here. Came back hours later after watching The Master of Disguise and you guys are basically writing books in the thread.

What substances does /lit use? It seems like every great writer took at least one drug, from nicotine to mescaline. For me personally it’s nicotine and caffeine, as well as alcohol/cannabis from time to time.

I’ve never cried from a book before, or a movie. Book 6 of the Iliad was pretty sad for me though, when Hector was leaving his wife to go to battle, and she said he was like her father and mother at once. The death of Sonya’s mother in Crime and Punishment was pretty poignant as well, the way she clung on to her pride while losing her sanity filled me with sorrow. I think the last time my eyes actually teared up at something was about 18 months ago, watching a video of a Coptic woman in Egypt. IIRC all of her children had various disabilities, with some of them dying, and her husband was terminally ill with organ failure as well. What got me was the fact that she said that she was grateful to God for giving her strength to continue, and she felt no hatred towards God for her situation. Really put things into perspective for me
