We live in the era after the utopia, the questions isn't how to better the world, it's what to do now? Mass increases of technology give us more freedom than before, so how do we use it? Are we in the republic, creating stunning works of art, figuring out the best way for life to be lived? No, we're taken by rampant consumerism. Over and over again.

Wait until you realize that this substance is just a self-referential caricature you've developed to reinforce beliefs someone else gave you.

Unironically based. Maths is a model for interacting with reality that disconnects and interacts with itself, proving nothing other than itself.

Neither, obviously. Why are you applying a marxist analysis to a post-marxist world? Why haven't you adopted the aristocratic critique yet, /lit/?

Got my dad to start reading Simulacra and Simulation, however he is having a hard time understanding the language and theory. For me it was pretty easy since i had already knew some theory from the book. So i really want to my dad to start reading and understanding what it is about since he loves symbolism (has probably more than ten books on the subject), now however he is pretty old and forgetful. What prerequisites should i focus on explaining to him (other than Simulation, Simulacrum and Hypereality) and what would be the best resource for someone older?

>If I ever dabbled in anything in my theoretical infancy, it was philosophy more than sociology. I don’t think at all in those terms. My point of view is completely metaphysical. If anything, I’m a metaphysician, perhaps a moralist, but certainly not a sociologist. The only ‘sociological’ work I can claim is my effort to put an end to the social, to the concept of the social.
how can one put an end to the concept of the social? what does he mean?

Who are the best current writers doing cultural analysis in the vein of Baudrillard? It seems like he would be having a field day with our current society and I want to know more.
