Would i be better off starting with the kjv or shakespeare if i want to start with english literature?
Is it ok to just get any version of the kjv or is there a specific one i should get?
Has anyone here found a book that helped unlock middle english for them after they read it btw? Is it even worth it or should i be spending my time devoted to the kjv and shakespeare?

Why is reading the Bible in order discouraged when Genesis through 2 Kings forms a single coherent narrative that puts the rest of the Bible in context?

Of course he doesn't mention that the only source for that is literally something some Jew wrote.

https://www.jstor.org/stable/25834456

"n today's fragmented society a large number of religious and secular neo-pagan expressions have emerged and are gathering strength. An increased interest in nature is a central element in many of its manifestations. Expressions of this attitude are found among neo-pagan believers, neo-Nazis and some extreme environmentalist currents. The ancient revulsion with regard to paganism felt by adherents of Judaism links up with the need to take stock of these contemporary phenomena. The return of paganism forces Judaism to focus on Jewish law and tradition, which proclaim that God is central in the world. Nature is not sacred and its laws represent barbarity; the Noahide laws represent civil society. There are many reasons for Jewish observers to watch attentively which direction the powerful, renewed interest in nature will take, and what consequences this may have for world Jewry."

They're afraid, and not by Christianity, which has been around for 2000 years. They are fucking afraid because they see that Ethnic European Paganism may be coming back and they will be necessarily excluded from Ethnic religions. That's what's got them scared.

Also pic related: it literally fucking says "Yahweh" in Hebrew on top of that first version of the KJV Bible. Oy vey!

Hello, Wingloo. I highly recommend you read the Holy Bible, ideally the King James Version, so you can acquire the rudiments of Christian civilization and begin to leave your savage darkie ways behind. Cheers, friend!

So i just finished the kjv bible and goddamn, it was good. What other works can i read that captures the poetry dripping from every page of the kjv. The illiad or shakespeare perhaps? I doubt they can capture how easy it is to read refined english as the kjv does though.

Did most Christians throughout history believe the strange stories in the old testament were real? If they always believed them to be allegorical, then how did they figure out what was allegorical and what actually happened?

What do you consider the most critical book in the Western canon? The book that, if neglected, disqualifies someone from being considered well-read?

Whatever someone's thoughts on it may be, pic related is my choice.

Inb4 Waldun, my diary desu, animorphs, etc.

Does the KJV of the Bible have any literary merit?

Seeing the effect its prose has had on writers like Melville, Faulkner, and McCarthy, and even seeing how some of the most important works of literature have incorporated its themes and imagery is really facinating to me.

Does God ever explain why he has such a hard-on for circumcision? Also, how is God all-knowing if Moses corrects him when he’s on the verge of destroying all the children of Israel?

Exod. 32:14), “And the Lord repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people.”

Hey /lit/, I’m a materialist non believer, I don’t know if I could ever be convinced to believe in a god, but I like the idealism that’s in the bible and I’d like to incorporate some of it into my life. What order would you recommend to read the bible in and at what point should I read the divine comedy and paradise lost?

Tldr: I'd like to be a Christian believer if not one by faith, how do I get started?
