Authors you were wrong about? I thought Simone Weil would be a raging marxist but she turns out to have a pretty good philosophy on life and I found myself agreeing with her a lot.

She strikes me as such an enigmatic figure, and yet none of her philosophy or her views are anything that I would gravitate to. I think she fascinates me because of how many people thought she was a legitimate angel, even the existentialists and nihilists like Sartre, de Beauvoir, Camus, Dwight McDonald, etc.

To be fair, her works do strike me as the product of a sexually repressed and/or histrionic woman who was attracted to the excesses of the Catholic aesthetic she surely witnessed in her upbringing.
