It's Schelling. In their university days, Hegel was roommates with Holderin, and the somewhat younger Schelling -- in their formative years, they were fast friends.
Schelling raised the most important and immediate objections to Hegel's Science of Logic -- that, in a completely presupposition-less framework, there is no reason that the thought of pure being should reveal itself to be nothing.

After reading Schelling (the last boss of German Idealism), you have two beautiful choices to complete your investigation of German idealism:
>Kierkegaard because you have hope and conscience
>Schopenhauer because you have no hope but have conscience
Or you have rank materialism, anti-spiritualism, scientism, Machiavellianism, bugmenism, etc., ugly and puerile choices because you have no hope and no conscience.

Schelling seems to be highly neglected in the Anglosphere. Is he the forgotten end-boss of philosophy? Does he have systematic tendencies like Hegel with the capacity to incorporate mythology but without the fixation on reason? Are there panentheist readings of Schelling? What is his take on Being and Becoming?

A few months back there was a thread talking about zoomer philosophy majors who grew up on the internet and have acquired vast amounts of encyclopaedia-level knowledge of obscure 18th century philosophers. What I got from all this is that German idealism is making some sort of comeback in academia (in Europe at least). Can someone confirm if this is true? Seems pretty exiting and would make sense now that even normies are getting desensitized by postmodernism and turning back to romanticism.

My friends we have a far higher task at hand. The time is approaching for Mind to fully subsume Nature and bring about the Noosphere. All of our vital energies must be directed towards this task and the eventual unfolding of the Absolute within the Omega Point.

Yes. His oeuvre is the most beautiful philosophical development in print. The way he goes from Fichtean Critical Idealism to Spinozist Naturphilosophie (but with a twist) then into Absolute Idealism of then Identity System and the proto-Existentialist and eerily Thomist Idealism of his late period is a journey in thought that really addresses the central problem of the entire tradition of philosophy.

>Fleshes out Herder and Hamann's anticipation of the linguistic turn
>anticipates Heidegger's ontology and existential analysis of death
>demonstrates God's necessity
>listens to Jesus' Word and discovers the nature of the Father
>btfo Hegel
>completes Kant
>solves mind/body dualism
>gives the first and richest account of the unconscious
>demonstrates the commensurability between mind and matter
>underscores the spiritual dimensions of nature while appreciating theoretical approximations
>isn't terrified of infinity like Kant.

Please remind me why we still do philosophy after Schelling when he has literally solved it?

>That only man, the most complete of all visible creatures, is capable of evil, shows already that the ground of evil could not in any way lie in lack or deprivation. The devil, according to the Christian point of view, was not the most limited creature, but rather the least limited one. Imperfection in the general metaphysical sense is not the common character of evil, since evil often shows itself united with an excellence of individual. forces, which far more rarely accompanies the good. The ground of evil must lie, therefore, not only in something generally positive but rather in that which is most positive in what nature contains, as is actually the case in our view, since it lies in the revealed centrum or primal will of the first ground.

Schelling is untouchable.
