"What must be presupposed as a subjective need in the study of sciences is the desire for rational insight, for knowledge, not merely for a collection of facts."

Once on lit someone asked why they shouldn't just read the wikipedia pages for various philosophers to see what they had concluded and leave it at that. A conclusion is just this, a fact, and a dead historical one. How is it that someone should want to study something without, as Hegel put it, the desire for rational insight, for knowledge? The point is to obtain the knowledge, the reasons, the correctness, as your own. What kind of mental illness drives someone to waste time collecting these facts about philosophy?
