Strange question, are old / used books dangerous to handle? Like what is the likely that used books contain or have been exposed to dangerous conditions and materials and does it put a reader in danger through exposure?

Could pages contain lead or asbestos particulates from building remodels over the years or what if there are books that were recovered from contaminated proprieties that were affected by hazardous events like the Fukushima disaster.

I can understand mold, harmful solvents and glues but I was how can you clean and sanitize books or even test for that kind of stuff.
