I loathe the holiday season. I'm spending the weekend at my desk, studying philosophy. The glow of my task light reflecting off white paper is my preferred illumination, not a dead tree's insipid blinking. Studying is a much better use of my time than exchanging forced-cheerful inanities with people I don't even like very much. Nothing exposes the grotesque pathologies and glaring contradictions of the warped American character with as much breathtaking clarity as the so-called holiday season. During these weeks the near-hysterical attempts to obscure our collective psychosis beneath paper-thin good cheer and fraudulent warm smiles reveal the nullity of our supposed common values. A feral rictus would be more honest. Americans hate each other even more than they hate themselves.

God I love Tennyson so much, he is the most underrated poet. I found a beautiful 1890s copy of his collected works being given away on someone's front lawn once and have always cherished it. I also love Ed Bruce. I don't know who you are Pop-pop and I hate tripfaggots on principle but I support your thread and I hope that all anons who read it are convinced of Tennyson's brilliance.

Books about ambitious protagonists or charachters ?

i've read martin eden and i'm really into ambitious charachters like him. At the moment im reading the count of monte kristo and it's in a similar light. So is there any well-written fictional works that capture the intrinstic charachter with high ambitions
