Hey /lit I’m about to finish up reading Tom Clancy soon since it’s getting boring and was wondering if I could get some recommendations on what to read next. I was either thinking the Dirk Pitt series by Clive Cussler or the Honor Bound series by WEB Griffin. I was also wondering if any of you guys could recommend good detective thrillers that take place in the 30s/40s or 60s/70s

I've liked reading ever since I was a child, but I haven't read a lot in the last couple of years. Most of what I have read is genre fiction anyways. I want to read philosophy and highbrow literature, but I fear that I lack the skills necessary to thoroughly enjoy them. For ex: I tried to read Ulysses and gave up after the first chapter because I couldn't keep up with it. I'm reading beyond good and evil, and I do understand it, but in parts and I have to focus a lot.

I guess my question is, how do I gauge where I stand? And since I know that I have to improve a lot, how do I do that?

If literature is a primarily feminine hobby, then why are there no women on /lit/?
