care to elaborate ? what did Max Frisch do/think/write ? is "Homo faber" a novel ? is it different from the book you mentioned ?

another widely underappreciated one : Armistead Maupin

Tales of the City is full of sunshine, friendship and happiness. Doesn't fit the "something that goes deeper" part or your request, but it's still powerful.

What does /lit/ think of Armistead Maupin ? I haven't read the last book, but the rest was great and I had the impression that anyone would like it - even people who are not into books and who lack attention. Feels like a tv series. Sunshine and fun and friendship and sex and tears. Maybe it's not obscure or dark enough - sometimes I wonder if I should be ashamed to admit I love it. But hell. It's too good.
