Here I'll try to do it with as little effort as possible by showing you how "irony" and "avant-gaurde" can be applied to DFW writing.

Irony
-The fact that years in Infinite Jest's world are sponsored by corporations, is an ironic commentary on our capitalist society and it's future

Avant-Gaurde
-I believe in the Pale King, there is a foot note from a 1980s income tax form, a detail totally unecessary, yet put in to add to the over all information dump that usually happens in a DFW novel. The extensive use of foot-notes, seemingly for miniscule or irrelevant information is something that has been usually avoided in literature, thus making it outside literary trends, experimental, thus avant-gaurde. Also, it could be speculated that this heavy use of footnotes for irrelevant information is a sort of ironic twist on other works that require a large amount footnotes to understand properly (The Waste Land comes to mind).

Most likely not, it's appears that DFW use of footnotes is integral to his style and artistic expression.

DFW is an ironist quite frankly, and a lot of what he does can be put into question. DFW admits this himself, he actually says in one of his essays that there is a sort of pressure and anxiety of how his literature reflects on him, and the use of irony provides room for the author to escape serious scrutiny, should it come up.

No wonder why the stupid annoying bastard killed himself, he was a useless human being to the world and to anyone that knew him.

My point is that the second sentence erroneously implies that a comma is grammatically capable of introducing a list.

What do you mean it's unnatural to pause before reciting a list?

Use a fucking semi-colon if it bothers you so much, more flighty than colons and it's acceptable here since there is already a colon in the sentence (I assume it's the same sentence because there is no capitalisation of 'we').
