Why was he such a contradictory person? On one hand he's bemoaning the decadence of the modern world and how no one has an inherent foundation of truth anymore but at the same time he endorses subjectivism and is partially responsible for the postmodern cultural anarchy of the world today. He was just as decadent as everyone else he criticized. A venerable fraud.
