What's the best audiobook of Paradise Lost? Most of the ones I've checked can't into Milton.

Could you just replace Genesis 1-3 with Paradise Lost if you’re reading the Bible? Would you miss anything or get confused? It seems like simply a longer expanded version of the same story

John Donne would be a good progression, OP.

Satan is the main character, and that's too much christfaggotry for you? Go back to rddit.
Try reading it out loud; that's how I read a lot of it.

I'm not afraid of all the allegorical devices that Milton and Dante employ, but rather all the allusions that they constantly inject the verses with. Canto 18 of The Inferno references Jason, the leader of the Argonauts; that would've passed by me entirely, had I not checked the annotations.

That allusion is conspicuous to all of you, but my lack background with the Greeks—with the literary canon, in general—has led me to make this thread.

In reading Paradise Lost I've come to grapple with what seems to be Adam's unrest in the garden of Eden. He acknowledges a thirst he has for knowledge in book eight when probing Raphael about certain curiosities that he has. This seems to point out a fundamental lacking Adam has in overall fulfilment. This questioning of the cosmos and the mysteries around him seem to all point to the fact that Eden isn't as blissfully carefree as we're meant to think. It seems that Adam wants more than this just like he wanted a partner in Eve. How do Miltonian's explain this?

Hello /lit,

I have a quick question about a class that I'm taking next semester. I can either choose from a course on Milton or a course studying the Bible as literature.

What are your thoughts? Which would you prefer to take?

I like him as a rebel angel.
He's a good antagonist, has a good, defiant character.

Mostly I just like imagery of him getting beat the fuck out though.

You're wrong too.

The word 'Witch' comes from the British word 'Wit' which simply denoted a village elder wor wise person. The moving in Catholic church didn't want to compete with these people so used the buzzword 'Witch' to remove their influence and take over.

That's why satan is depicted as a man with Horns and hooves. Pan was a popular god among Western Europeans so the church needing to decrease that popularity said he was not a god, but in fact the devil incarnate.

You're speaking in half truths.
