There's no such thing as a full time bohemian unless you have inherited a lot of money or are maintained by your parents or some other "patron".

Even those living on welfare have some obligations. Others are into theft and crime and illicit substance sales. Others struggle with part time jobs. And others go Diogenes/crusty punk mode.

I'm planning to get into disability type monies or welfare myself. Live a simple and humble life and fill my time with hedonistic, artistic and philosophical pursuits.

You can live a simple life while still enjoying those things and look great doing it. Pic related, /fa/ as fuck.

It's about eliminating the superfluous. That of course differs per person.

I mostly reread works not to enjoy them for a second time, but to familiarise myself again with the ideas, values and atmosphere presented in book.

For example, if summer is coming and I feel a bit self-neglected and weary physically, I might reach for the vitalism and search for health in Gide's L'Immoraliste. If I seek simplicity, I might read up again on Diogenes and his folks. When I need a dose of bile to counter unwanted idealism I reach for Céline. If I yearn for balls out hedonism, I pick up Sade.

Many works that I really love and that have influenced me have come to represent certain aspects of life and thought for me. I use them as reminders, as a library of mentalities if you will. And I read them again when I feel it will benefit me. This doesn't mean that I'll reread them completely, sometimes a couple of pages are all I need.

This is also my guide to the buying (and/or keeping) of books. If I don't return to them once in a while, if I don't feel handicapped by not having them within my reach, they are not worth ownership and a single read will do. This doesn't mean I don't like the book, it just means that I don't internalise them as part of myself.
