I tend to feel the same way. It seems people writing or reading try to distil things down to a consumable formula. This may make money, but doesn't really make anything of value.

I am currently in attempt of making a fantasy Novel that DOES NOT have any of the typical tropes, but maybe wishful thinking to see it published. I can promise there will be NO: Elves, Orcs Dragons, Trolls, Half-lings, Magical Rings, Magic, Swords, Prophecies, Chosen One's, Good or Evil, Witches, Flying monkeys, or Allegories for God.

Now I just have to wait for the circle jerk of post saying "You'll never make one!" or "No one cares GTFO!"
