O Allah! If I worship You for fear of Hell, burn me in Hell, and if I worship You in hope of Paradise, exclude me from Paradise. But if I worship You for Your Own sake, grudge me not Your everlasting Beauty.

Paradise is not really the goal. It serves its purpose but like all rewards of Allah, it has this habit of leading people away from God. The true goal, again, is to form a personal relationship with the Creator.

As Saint Rabiah al-Basri says in her poetry:

"O God! If I worship You for fear of Hell, burn me in Hell, and if I worship You in hope of Paradise, exclude me from Paradise. But if I worship You for Your Own sake, grudge me not Your everlasting Beauty.”
